SITE VISITS
Stonetrust’s professional loss control engineers conduct scheduled
on-site inspections and provide industry-specific safety recommendations
to policyholders - all at no additional cost! The risk control
specialist will do physical inspections of the work areas and job sites to
ensure safety measures are being followed and note ways in which safety
can be improved. He may sometimes visit a site to aid with loss
reviews or claims investigations.
The specialist will review the employer’s safety program and make
recommendations for improvement as well as suggest ways to comply with
State Workers’ Compensation Laws or federal standards, e.g. OSHA.
When our loss control engineer makes a job site inspection, he
determines if the employer does the following:
- Obtains employment applications and checks references. Hiring the
proper individual for a position will go a long way toward having and
maintaining a safe working environment.
- Provides a job description as to what is expected of the employee.
Include the consequences should an employee violate any of the safety
rules.
- Provides training, either on-the-job or formal sessions, with
documentation.
- Has a written drug policy. This will help should a claim be taken to
court.
- Conducts and documents regular safety meetings.
- Provides protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats,
gloves, respirators, fall protection equipment, steel toe shoes, and
earplugs and ensures they are utilized properly.
- Erects scaffolds correctly with sound footings, hand rails, and
secures them to prevent turnover.
- Assures that tools and equipment, such as ladders, are in good
condition and well maintained. Guard should be provided on rotating
equipment.
- Makes sure seat belts are utilized by operators of all vehicles.
- Keeps the work area clean and orderly. Good housekeeping is
extremely important in order to prevent accidents and fires.
- Analyzes any accidents that do happen and examines procedures that
could be used to prevent a recurrence in the future.
After
visiting the employer's job site, the Stonetrust risk control specialist
will provide a written report to the employer detailing the employer’s
current safety and loss control needs.
