SAFETY ENGINEERS COMPLETE TRAINING IN ERGONOMICS

Stonetrust loss control engineers Steve Matlock and Wayne Rauch were the only attendees representing the insurance industry at a recent seminar in Mesquite, Texas, on OSHA 2250, the Basics of Ergonomics. The seminar reviewed the application of ergonomics principles and their relation to musculoskeletal and nerve disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, back injury, tendonitis, and muscle strain, which can be caused when the body is not in proper anatomical position. The most costly muscular skeletal disorder is back injuries; however, carpal tunnel syndrome causes more lost work days than any other occupational injury or illness.

Stonetrust loss control engineers are proficient at measuring office workstations and aiding in workstation design to facilitate proper anatomical positioning of the employee. They are able to assess work positions in offices and manufacturing facilities to determine the potential for injury.

An effective Ergonomics Program requires the participation of management and employees and includes job site analysis, hazard control and correction, medical management, training, and evaluation and follow-up. For assistance with an Ergonomics Program, please contact a Stonetrust loss control engineer.

Steve and Wayne are both OSHA certified. Wayne carries an OSHA certification as OSHA Construction Safety Trainer and Steve is certified as an OSHA General Industry Safety Outreach Trainer. They can provide any training required by OSHA or state workers’ compensation law at no cost to policyholders.
